“It still amazes me that we insist on teaching algebra to all students when only about 20 percent will ever use it and fail to teach anything about parenting when the vast majority of our students will become parents.”

‘The Hindu’ published an article on July 20, 2019, and we quote, “A growing preference for international boards in India has been pointed out by the Regional Director of South Asia, Cambridge International, Ruchira Ghosh. This has come to notice that more than 45,000 admissions were made to the Cambridge IGCSE board in the March 2019 series, which indicated a 17% growth over last year’s admissions." Being part of "The Cambria International School" this comes as no surprise for us. The board that governs the school sets the vision with which kids will be moving ahead during their school days and later in life.

IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is administered by the University of Cambridge and is recognized worldwide. The curriculum is application-oriented and aimed to nurture young minds to be creative and analytic thinkers. Exams are to test the learned concept rather than mugging skills. IGCSE offers to commence from the very beginning to A & AS Level which is equivalent to Indian Higher Secondary Education. With IGCSE, students have the option to choose between the core and extensive syllabus. But this is not an easy option as the qualifications are based on individual subjects of study, which means that one receives an "IGCSE" qualification for each subject one takes. It's approach leads toward the overall development of kids and focuses equally on science, humanities, languages, and mathematics.

Along with the known advantages, people have many doubts as well. With growing popularity, India now has more than 412 schools which are IGCSE dedicated and the number is expected to touch 900 in the near future. Internationally accepted, graduates from Cambridge School are eligible for all State level & National Level examinations like CET, IT JEE, CET, CAT, etc. If re-allocated within or outside the country, the IGCSE curriculum is balanced and lends a global perspective to studies.

We also tried reaching some of the IGCSE graduates online and asked if they will suggest new parents opt for the same. They responded affirmatively. They couldn't stop talking about the benefits and how fun the school was for them. They told us how science was never limited to book, and about the poems and stories, they wrote during their language lessons. One of the common suggestion newspaper articles, blogs, and vlogs will provide is to decide board according to your long term plan for the child, which seems highly impractical. Before opting IGCSE,  we are sure parents would have compared it with other available options and chose perspicaciously. We hope parents in Cambria family will agree with us when we say IGCSE does provide a sense of future security and are enjoying the learning curves along with our students.
